My friend Lucy came from a county animal shelter in Tucson which was a horrible place, dirty and overcrowded – she had been there 3 months and had an E on her card to be euthanized. She was smart and well-balanced – everything she did required a negotiation between us in which I could see her brain actively working out compromises between us – she was the most precious being to me who I miss with all my heart and soul. I hope she knew how much she meant to me and that she is waiting for me in heaven.
